Xeriscaping means designing a garden for drought tolerance.

Xeriscaping does not mean completely eliminating the use of water,  All plants, even the most drought-tolerant needs irrigation and propper planting to become established to compete with dry and stressful conditions.  This is usually the second or third season after planting.  Water new plants deeply and not frequently to established a deep root system.  Frequent and light watering, creates shallow roots that stress the plant in dry conditions.

Pretty drought tolerant once establish and can be used in Xeriscaping.  All plants used in Xeriscaping requires  well drained soil.  “Royal Purple” smokebush grows 10-15’ tall and makes a beautiful backdrop!  Unique “smoky puff“ blooms appear in summer.
